I’m currently on break from watching any Girls’ Generation videos and so to fill up my time and to find something new which interests me, I’ve wiki-ed Li Bingbing’s acting filmography and am now watching the films which she has acted in.
Recently, I’ve watched The Message, an espionage (spy-like) movie set in the World War era where the Japanese army has taken over China. There is this Government organization and there is a mole among them, one who is secretly leading a rebellion and murdering several officials.
So the objective of this movie is to uncover who is the mole. Five top rank members of the organization who has been speculated to be the mole have been detained in a castle where interrogation will be carried out. The authorities used any method in acquiring information, going as far as torturing them using acupuncture techniques to hit their pressure points (it hurts a lot mind you) and a strip check was performed on one of the female lead.
While others were frantically struggling to proof their innocence, the mole was struggling to get a message out from the castle to his/her comrades outside.
Now, the beginning of the movie itself isn’t very interesting, heck it’s a bit boring at first. But when the plot started to roll and the strategies began to unfold, everything was so intense and the show just got more interesting. This is the kind of movie when while watching at first, you’ll be like “what are they doing? I don’t get it” then when everything got explained at the end, you’ll be like “OMG GENIUS!! Who would’ve thought of that plan!!!” get what I’m trying to say? =D
There really is nothing must to critique about this movie really. Everything was planned out so well and the details they put in are so well done. No wonder the movie did well with the professional critiques and also Ms Li won Best Actress for her role here.
Overall this movie is freaking awesome (if you can make it all the way to the end and feel the “OMG GENIUS!! Who would’ve thought of that plan!!!” kinda of feelings). Really worth watching and worth your time.

Warning: spoiler ahead. Read at your own risk if you have not watched/read the movie/book.
Right, I know previously I said “my one thought throughout the whole movie was ‘what is this shit?!’” but, after rewatching it two more times, I found it to be quite entertaining (and yes I can pretty much memorize some of the lines by now lol). And the pretty/handsome cast does help in making sure I didn’t fall asleep during each rewatch.
The thing is, during my first watch I did too much comparison between the movie and the book. Being a person who loves the book version more, I felt that the movie was not up to par with the book because the movie doesn’t show all the emotions that the book does. The movie doesn’t tell the whole story; well actually it did, just in shorter scenes (I’d prefer if it showed a bit more).
In the movie, actresses Li Bing Bing and Gianna Jeon play the two main characters in the book, Lily and Snow Flower (Xue Hua) respectively. Besides them, the two actresses also play the two leads in the present, Nina and Sophia respectively.
the pretty ladies (Ms Li in blue while Ms Jeon in red) and the handsome Hugh Jackman
The funny thing is; neither of them spoke English as their first language and almost half the movie was in English. Their pronunciation was a bit off, with some influences of their first language (Chinese for Ms Li and Korean for Ms Jeon). And Ms Jeon took a crash course in Mandarin to take on the two roles. Her Chinese is so cute because it was so off but I think in the movie they dubbed it? Since this is my first time watching one of her movies, I cannot recognize her voice yet. But I can very confidently say that at some scenes in the past, her voice was definitely dubbed.
There’s one thing I’m wondering though, did they really bind the kids’ feet? Because the sound of their feet bones breaking was really terrible to sit through. I actually removed my earpiece until the foot binding was over. But the best part was after they got the foot bound. They had to walk rounds in their room to fully break all the bones. With tear stained cheeks, little Xue Hua gave her mom a ‘WTF? You expect me to walk with my feet like this?’ look when her mom told her to start walking. It was priceless, like imagine a kid going ‘lady, you did not just asked me to walk after wrapping up my feet like this. Like wtf?’ bwahahaha the kids were crying but I kept laughing (felt kinda bad though haha)
And now, here comes the spoiler. I’m going to, as briefly as possible, summarise the movie.
Like I said before, the movie opens with Nina being in her company’s dinner and Sophia getting hit by a taxi, not a bus (my mistake, sorry), and then she ends up in a coma. Nina gets a call from the hospital and rushes over. From there, Nina collects Sophia’s bag and rummages it, finding a stack of papers (it being the book Sophia wrote with the same title as the movie).
It then flashbacks to 1997, when the duo had just met and quickly became good friends in high school, Nina was employed to be Sophia’s Mandarin tutor for she just migrated to Shanghai at the age of 14 (or 15?). Nina got kicked out of the household after Sophia’s stepmother had had enough of her and told her not to come here anymore. But Nina snuck back in with the help of Sophia’s aunt and that’s when they started talking about the tiny feet and laotong stuff.
Sophia described it as ‘she’s talking about my mother’s mother’s mother’s mother’ when her aunt showed the two teens a pair of tiny shoes. Her aunt introduced the laotong concept to them, saying that laotongs are sworn sisters for life and the two dorks held up their pinkies to each other saying ‘sisters?’ ‘sisters!!!’ *stupid dorks..kekeke* then they signed their very own laotong contract..on a Faye Wong cd…LOL!!
Then with some alternates here and there, the time frame moves further into the past into 19th century China, where the two little girls are getting their feet bound. After that it skips to a year later when the matchmaker pays Lily’s home a visit, bringing along Xue Hua with her. And that’s how the two kids meet. The matchmaker then takes them to a temple in another town and they wrote their laotong contract and promised to meet there every year.
Back in the present, Nina is trying to trace Sophia’s whereabouts after their fight six months ago. You see, Nina is too worried about Sophia (Sophia being the more fun loving, worry causer of the two) and she finds it impossible to stop worrying about her and is on the verge of giving up her chance to go to New York to set up a new company branch. So Sophia plots to get Nina to hate her in order for Nina to go chase after her dream (noble, ain’t she? Haha)
Since they were younger, Nina had done so many things for Sophia like when they were going to take their college entrance exam, Sophia got sick at the last moment and Nina took the exam for her.
“You thought I couldn’t pass my exam..I feel bad”
“Don’t worry about it.”
In the book, a misunderstanding caused the two sworn sisters to break and only reunited when Xue Hua was at the brink of death. Lily finally gets over her pride and tends to her laotong until her last breath. That is how the book ends.
The movie, it ends with Nina finds out the whole truth and forgives Sophia for her past mistakes (fight 6months ago) and decides to stay in Shanghai.

After watching it 3times, I freaking love this movie. LOL I’m such a hypocrite. But I think the thing is to watching any book-turn-movie is to stop comparing the book and the movie and just enjoy the two as separate entities.
lol i just realised how much i've babbled about this book/movie here in this blog.
Edit1: OMG I LOVE THE OST!!!!
i haven't finish listening to them all yet..but the first is definitely my favourite!!
this track was played when the two little kids first meet
after almost two years of complaining, i'm going to stop because i know if i continue, i won't get anything in return and also i'm just making myself upset over something as trivial as this.
i started this gig as something to update my friends on my whereabouts and whatever messes i have gotten myself into. lack of responses are a bit discouraging though i understand that sometimes, there seems to be no need for responses because readers just don't know what to say. i understand, i am a reader myself.
i sometimes wonder why am i doing this. why am i doing this and who am i doing this for. an acquaintance of mine answered my question in the simplest manner
yes, and so i shall. lack of responses aren't going to be a bother to me anymore because i'm going to keep writing and posting for myself. writing and posting stuff here helps to keep my writing skills in check and it won't become rusty in a sense.
so yea, i'm doing this for myself and i think i'll enjoy it more that way =D
After reading the book, I was looking forward to the movie..was.. because the trailer seemed really nice and all. I finally found it and streamed it last night and I didn’t really like it to be honest. The movie pretty much follows the book’s details pretty closely. But they skipped a lot of details to make time for the scenes in present day. the movie alternates between the past and the present because it was a story about the ancestors of two present day best friends, who so happened to be the two main characters in the book, Lily and Snow Flower. (and I was so right about her name being Xue Hua in Chinese! Haha!)
The movie starts with present day Lily (Nina) being in a company celebration dinner and Snow Flower (Sophia) outside the building trying to call her best friend but Nina didn’t notice the phone and Sophia left the place and got hit by a bus afterwards. The hospital called Nina and it sets the story in motion. In Sophia’s hospital room, Nina rummages Sophia’s bag and found a stack of papers being the story ‘Snow Flower and the Secret Fan’ that Sophia had written. So Nina reads the story and the flashbacks start.
The scenes of the past, started with the two little girls starting their foot binding (oh gawd the scene was so hard to watch! Imagine two little girls getting their foot bound, crying and the sound of bone breaking every now and then..eee!!) and then the story flows pretty much the same as the book. the only difference was that they skipped so many pages.
So like I said before, they alternate between past and present. In the present, Nina is trying to track her friend’s whereabouts before the accident. The two got into a fight few months ago and lost contact. Then..ah…you guys can go check it out yourselves..hehe
Having said all that, I can safely say that the book is so much nicer than the movie. Thought the book was so much more heartbreaking and difficult to read, the movie was … I don’t know… my only thought throughout the whole movie was ‘what is this shit?!’ haha
But to my surprise, the movie stars some really big names like Hugh Jackman, Korean actress Jeon JiHyun and a famous Chinese actress Li BingBing. O.O
Edit1: still, having said all that 'what is this shit?!' while watching it, i kinda wanna watch it for the second time. i don't know why, but i just feel like it. kinda makes me all warm and fuzzy inside thinking about those two best friends.

my review of the book can be found here if anybody needs a refresher.
so it all started with a random tweet on twitter that i said i've never gone through a semester without bruising my leg at least once. and this dude out of nowhere pops up and i thought i'd amuse myself after dinner. i think he has a leg fetish or something lol (just jk) his tweets are all about leg injuries and what not.
p/s: read from top to bottom
the dude never answered after my two question marks. meh, what the heck, consider him blocked.
the funny thing was he thought that picture of Taeng is actually my face. please la, twitter is the on place where i will not use my own picture as a DP. Does Taeyeon look Chinese?? LOL
So finals week has finally arrived and my first paper will start tomorrow and end on the 23rd. now before you guys go ‘OMG why so long?!!’ I’ll explain. It’s because of a ten day break in between the papers that cause the big drag in my exams, which is good because I haven’t started on the last paper yet (Costing) and it would be complete suicide if the paper was put, oh I don’t know, let’s say next week? Haha
First paper is Moral, much to my chagrin. Then after that comes along Pengajian Malaysia, which is just another History paper then comes Costing. So yea, the schedule is pretty nice and well balanced actually. I don’t really have any complaints about it.
And yea, that’s about it I guess? Haven’t been doing much since the last update (other than tetris-ing, 9gag-ing and ssf-ing) I’m already back in Kampar (since Wednesday evening) and I’ll be back in Sitiawan again next Tuesday.
And oh, for those wondering where did the event on fb went, I deleted it. Not because I’m lazy to plan but because of the lack of interest and initiative shown by the others, so yea, I axed it. I’m sorry Rachel. I’ll make it up to you somehow.
Today is Monday! Honestly, the best Monday all year! lol today should’ve been declared a s a public holiday for all SONEs! No wait, I demand that today be declared as a public holiday!
To my dear Black Pearly Kwon Yuri,
Happy 22nd (23rd Korean age) birthday. Thank you for always being your kkab (dorky, crazy) self and bringing joy and laughter together with your fellow gag member Sooyoung and Hyoyeon.
I love and will always love your super fail self, whether it is during a performance or your attempts in speaking a different language. You fail so shamelessly that yet only you can pull off such a stunt. One really can’t help but love you even more!
Yuri: hi, I am Takoyaki lover, Yuri! I hope that all of you will enjoy yourselves today. (lol i don't understand the next part) I love you guys!
Yuri-ah, Happy Birthday and I wish you good health, happiness and success always. May you and your ‘sisters’ one day find love and happiness and we SONEs will always be here supporting the 9 of you.
Sincerely,
Zhi

I’ve been watching a lot of Taiwan dramas lately (no thanks to my sister and her after exam drama spree) Every weekend that I’m home, I end up watching a few episodes of some Taiwanese drama and then left hanging, not knowing what happens in the end.
Last weekend I watched Love You, Raine Yang’s new drama (not say very new but new enough to be considered new for me^^). Hmm I think I kinda enjoy watching her dramas, cause she’s very lively and its always nicer to watch somebody lively than to watch somebody who looks like their half dead. LOL
So enough with the two meaningless paragraphs above, my purpose here today is to recommend one of the drama’s OSTs, 我們都傻 (wo men dou sha)by Raine Yang herself. I’m a sucker for ballads, especially those really sad ballads and this really hit the spot. Guess I’m taking a liking to Chinese ballads nowadays =D
the lyrics can be found at the video's description =]
enjoy~! hope you guys will like it as much as i do
My sole purpose here today is to show off my newly arrived The Boys album =D.
I’ve waited almost a month for it to reach and now that it’s finally here, I couldn’t be more ecstatic about it! Even my ‘T’ key gone haywire didn’t spoil my mood. Lol
So without further ado, jjajjang~! My Boys

the poster was sent separately so i haven't got them yet. =] totally no regret spending on this and the wait was worth it even though it was such a long and agonizing wait. i'm not the most patient person ya know..haha
Annyong =] sorry that updates are getting less and less frequent…
You just noticed? *rolls eyes*
I kinda have my hands full for the week because of Malaysian Studies midterm (this Sat by the way…) and I’m not even half way done with revision; somebody brick me please *passes brick and hides*
Girl, you really want me to brick you? I might miss and hit your precious baby…
NUUU!!!! Anything but my baby!!!
What a loser…pssh..continue *gestures*
*ahem* If you haven’t noticed, the mixpod is back with the 2new songs I found to be really nice. Two of them are Chinese songs
LE GASP! ZHI LISTENING TO CHI SONGS!!
I listen to Chinese songs too ok…just not that frequently..
pssh..typical zhi…
*glares* Still, my timetable is fairly relax this semester..
Kristie says it’s spoiling you and making you lazy.
*glares* yes..so what? It’s going to end next week anyway..let me enjoy this short sem cause I’m not going to have another short sem till next year.
Alright..alright..*backs away*
Ugh..no mood to talk d la..aigoo chincha..*storms off*
Aiyohai..somebody very small gas today hor.
Pssh..like I care..anyway guys, see you next post =]
Wow I haven’t had a proper update in about 2weeks plus. Must be a new record or something *laughs*
Anyway, I’m here to say that I’m still very much alive and kicking. I’m now in my last semester for my first year as a Degree student *cheers*.
I was busy with assignments for most of the time in the past two to three weeks. Since this is a short semester, everything happens twice as fast. Just because it’s a short sem (7wks, long sem 14wks) doesn’t mean we study only half the stuff we usually do. Everything is crammed into 7weeks which emans we have to work twice as fast and go to class twice as many times in a week. But I only have 3assignments so it wasn’t very hectic.
As some of you might know, due to my awesome results last semester, I am currently repeating my favourite subject, Costing. This time, we got a Chinese lecturer and she’s so much better than the one I had last semester. That freaking lady can’t teach to save her life, I assure you that. Now if I bump into her in campus, I’ll be like ‘Dang it, today damn soi bump into her.’ *snickers*
Then, last Friday (11.11.2011) me and two dozen other friends had a full scale family themed campaign in our lecture hall, with opening ceremonies, decorations and performances. I was in charge of publicity (which was the easiest job for me), all I had to do was stand in front of the class and promote our campaign (i.e. when, where, what etc). Easy right? the campaign turned out better than expected and our lecturer was taken by surprise because he did not expect us to pull it off so well (as we were the first team and first teams normally don’t do very well).
After the campaign came midterms! Everybody thought Moral midterm was going to be a piece of cake and boy were we wrong. Even though it’s just true/false, the questions were darn tricky and I can say that out of 25, I guessed almost half. Not looking forward to seeing the results. Two hours after Moral was Costing *insert dramatic sound effect like lightning and thunder strike*.
With the fear of going blank and guessing 90% of the answers like last semester’s midterm, it was so freaking obvious that I would be freaking out before the test came. I actually couldn’t sleep the night before the campaign because I was too worried about us failing the campaign and me failing my Costing midterm. I hate that stressed feeling when I sleep. I feel like something is pressing down on my chest and my heart beat gets more and more rapid and also I can breathe properly. It’s like being suffocated. Having said all that, Costing midterm wasn’t that bad after all. Heck, it was so much better than last semester’s midterm.

i'm also getting back in touch with my inner kid (not that i'm not big of a kid already...hehe) i'm on an anime marathon after so long. i'm watching Inuyasha (familiar?? no? never mind..) and this demon cat is so damn cute!!!! (Inuyasha is a demon dog ok..) don't believe? see for yourself!!
this feline's name is Kirara and she is SO DAMN CUTE!!!
[For SONEs] Kim Taeyeon - a leader who truly touched me:
There's a word in Korean called '덕후 (deoku)', a word originated from Japanese word 'Otaku'. When some people like something til they are sick, people call them 'XX-deok'.
Sones are often called '소덕' (So-deok), meaning people who are obsessed with SNSD, staying at home spazzing abt them every day. Some sones call themselves '소덕' because they admit that they are indeed obsessed with SNSD, and they feel nothing about it.
However, Taeyeon has been showing discontentment whenever people use this name to describe sones. She considers this a offensive word, and have reminded people a lot of times about its abuse.
Today on Radio Star, the MC once again mentioned that sones are 'So-deok', Taeyeon immediately said that 'It's not a nice word', she was so serious that the MC apologized and promised not to use it again.
Whether this word is rude or not doesn't matter, what touched me is how Taeyeon tries to protect her fans and how much she cares for us, even emphasizing on how people should address us.
She thinks about sones more than anyone does, asking fans if they've eaten their lunch/dinner whenever she has chance, asking everyone to take care of their health even though she falls sick more often than us.
Her unhappiness about the word 'So-deok' is once again an indication of her carefulness and tender heart. This is indeed the best leader in the universe, someone we should cherish forever.
***
This person here made it clear to me as why I defend the name SONE so persistently. We are SONEs, a name given to each and every one of us who are fans of the girls and we like our name a lot. Please call us that instead of other names that you have thought for us.
I’ve been called many different names during my two years of being a SONE, some of them would be a SNSD-freak, kpop-fan and person-who’s-crazy-bout-SNSD. I don’t like being called all those names because it doesn’t sound nice. I’m not offended at all really, but it frustrates me to no end that no matter how many times I’ve explained it to them, they still don't get it.
And apparently our dear leader feels the same. I am touched and glad that our leader stood up for us and I hope that SONEs around the world will be addressed accordingly, as SONEs, and no other names.

I have this friend who’s the typical happy-go-lucky character in every high school story and the one who’s always smiling in the face of adversity. She takes things one at a time and almost never cracks under pressure. She’s the kind of person who’s, more often than not, getting picked on by others because she almost never retorts whatever that others throw at her.
Work wise, she’s not to say the most well organized person you’ll ever meet. She’s that bit lazy and also that bit clumsy so you can’t really expect her to give you her all in any given piece of work. She almost never does. It’s rare for us to see her doing something seriously, which is also one of the reasons why nobody takes her seriously. To us, she’s such a joker that we’ll think she’s joking when she’s being dead serious.
She hates the fact that others seem to see her as somebody that’s dependable because in reality, she isn’t. She wants to depend on others just as much as the next guy but it rarely happens; which is why she sort of hates to be leaders for anything. She knows she’s not the most dependable person on earth and neither is she a very well organized one and she doesn’t want to cause trouble to us if she were to be a bad leader.
The reason why she doesn’t like to lead is because she doesn’t want to disappoint us. To her, seeing our disappointed faces is a nightmare. She’s a forgiving person but she’s not sure about the rest of us. Will we forgive her for her mistakes and for what she had lacked in leading us? Of course we will but she doesn’t believe us.
Everybody has this sort of friend, don’t we? It’s just the matter of how we adjust to them and how they adjust to us that makes the difference between a long lasting friendship and also one that is a temporary as everything else on this earth.
Got little brown insects terrorizing your room? No worries, as an expert in exterminating them roaches, I’m going to give you guys a simple and totally practical method to end their miserable life once and for all with minimal effort.
First, to exterminate your pest, you would need only 1 thing; newspaper. Select your daily newspaper which when rolled up fits perfectly in your grip. Make sure that it isn’t too thick of a roll and neither too thin. If it’s too thick, it won’t be a firm grip and the newspaper might just fly out of your hand when you’re preparing for a swing. If it’s too thin, the impact wouldn’t be strong enough to kill your unwanted visitor.
Now for the simple steps to exterminate your everyday roach:
1.When a roach is within the area of your room, it’s pretty noticeable even if you can’t see it yet because of the smell that it emits. The strong scent is a warning for you to get your newspaper ready for battle.
2.Have your newspaper on standby because once it enters your sight, it is your signal to start your hunt.
3.Roaches are pretty quick things so it’s always good to have the element of surprise on your side. Try to coax the thing out into the open by using a broom, a badminton racquet or a stick; anything long enough that can be used as an extension of your arm.
4.If the roach ever gets behind of a piece of furniture, for example your cupboard, remove anything near it to create enough space for you to swing you arm and whack it. After that, slowly, and I do mean very slowly, push the cupboard out from its original position to reveal the hidden roach. Do this very slowly because any abrupt movement will cause the insect to scurry away and you’ll have to begin your hunt again.
5.Once in sight, make sure to not startle them and make them go back into hiding again. Be cautious with your movements and be as soundless as possible. Once you have a good view of the creature and also enough space for a full swing, take your aim.
6.Be sure to have a few quick test aims before the actually swat, like how golfers don’t hit the golf ball on the first swing. This will help you increase your accuracy as you’ll get a feel of hitting that exact spot before having to hit it for real. Please execute this step as quick as possible.
7.Once that is done, take a deep breath and with all your might, swing your arm and hit that insect. If you succeed on your first attempt, congratulations but if you missed, quickly collect your weapon and hit it again before it goes back into hiding.
8.Repeat steps 3 to 7 until insect is killed.
9.Once killed, if you’re too squeamish to pick it up using the newspaper with your hands, get the broom and the dustpan and sweep it up. in the hitting process, you might notice some of its…juices ..might have splashed all over the floor. It really stinks so clean it up properly.
So this is Zhi’s guide to killing your everyday roach. All the best!
