“Hi!”
A brunette looked up from her book as she felt somebody tapped her shoulder and was greeted with a toothy grin from a blonde haired boy.
“Oh? Hi! What a coincidence”
“Yea..hey, Jess mind if I share the table with you? Everywhere else is full…” he trailed off as he stood awkwardly with his tray of coffee and sandwiches.
The brunette chuckled and nodded as she scanned the vicinity of little bustling café. She cleared the table and the boy graciously sat down.
“Haven’t seen you in a while, Jess. You on break from college?”
“Yup, two weeks off then it’s back to that dead hole…” she took a sip of her drink.
“Can’t be as bad as my place. It’s so dead I don’t even know why the built a college there” he unwrapped his sandwich and took a bite.
“Dead places are better study environment, no?”
“ya waight..weew boohed thuu deatffft derr”
“Swallow then talk please” Jessica laughed at his silly antics.
“Sorry, I said ya right, we’re bored to death there. I mean seriously..no theatre, no mall, no bowling alley!” he rolled his eyes while describing the little town his college was in.
Jessica smiled at his actions. It has been a while since the two of them had a chance to talk like this. Ever since middle school graduation their group has been separated as everybody else started growing distant and in the end, enrolled into different high schools in the district. Jessica was glad to have at least one member of their group in the same high school as her. They talk from time to time but they weren’t as close as they were when they were kids.
He is quite the chatterbox and a very sociable person. He has been talking for about two hours now. His coffee has gone cold and his sandwich, half eaten and still in his grip as he waved his arms all over the place to gesture as he told his stories from college. Jessica sat there quietly, laughing occasionally and listened. Book untouched after he sat down, the brunette is enjoying her time with her old friend, not minding that he did most of the talking.
“Whoa look at the time.”
He scratched the back of his head as his face scrunched up thinking how long he had been talking.
“Sorry for talking so much”
“It’s alright, I don’t mind. Besides, it’s fun listening to your stories.”
“Really? That’s a relief!! Hey Jess I gotta go. I’ll see you around aye?”
“Sure..see you around”
He turned back to wave at her and jogged away while she, after having enough of staring at his form, turned around and went the opposite way.
