a day at the pool with zhi

When is this cheeky and super laid back kid the most serious? Erm I would say when this kid is in the pool with her friends who don’t really know how to swim or those who are not strong swimmers. I’ve only been in a pool with those kind of friends for a few times and every time, I would make it my responsibility so see that they never cross the border that I have set for them.

In a standard swimming pool, there’s always a depth difference between one end and the other. So normally, for those who aren’t good swimmers, I would sternly warn them never to cross a particular part of the pool, for instance the half way point. The half way point is usually the start of the deep end. Unlike the pool in my father’s school which gradually slopes downwards, the pool here in Ktar has a steep drop that clearly depicts the difference in depth.

Usually when I’m in the pool I am very serious because I know how dangerous it can be. I don’t want anything to happen to any of my friends so I would naturally discourage playing like pressing each other down and not letting them come up for air. It’s very dangerous ya mind you. And I think since I help my mom out during her lessons by accompanying the kids to the deep end, I’ve become quite protective of any beginner swimmers around me. I get those mini heart attacks whenever they suddenly stop swimming and reach out their hand to grab either me or the wall. It scares the daylights out of me.

Like yesterday after much deliberation I brought my chingoo to the deep end (7ft in depth = 2.1m) and I got so many of those mini heart attacks. Because chingoo isn’t a very good swimmer, heck, she can be categorised as beginner. Bringing her to the deep end was one nerve wrecking trip, especially during the first round there. And once during the second trip on the way back, I kinda felt that she couldn’t go on anymore and I just towed her back. But she said it was fun so … -shrugs-

I might go all Sparta on you guys when I’m in the pool but it’s purely professional ey. I’m just afraid that if I slack off and not keep an eye on you guys, something *touchwood* might happen and I might lose you.

So if you’re a weak swimmer and I say never cross the half way point, please don’t cross it. And unless I’m with you, do not venture into the deeper end. lol
