They’ve made us proud countless of times throughout their career, breaking numerous records and topping charts everywhere, there really isn’t a day that passes without news about them.
4 years ago on this very day, 9 girls took their debut stage at SBS’s Inkigayo. Debuting as a 9-member group was something which was uncommon at that time, for most groups have about 5members or so on average. Their number is special and holds much significant to them and us SONEs.
9 girls grew in time along with their fans. Have I ever explained why we are called SONE? SONE (so-won) means wish in Korean and we’re their wish. Honestly I do feel that our fanclub name is the nicest (you can ignore that line if you’re not happy about it).
These 9 girls taught me many things which I incorporate in my daily life.
Maknae Seohyun once said that whenever somebody wakes her up or the alarm wakes her up, she sits up right away to avoid falling back to sleep. I do that every morning. Once the alarm rings, I off it and then I sit up crossed legged on the bed and wait for a while as the drowsiness subsides.
Leader Taeyeon went to the Han River the night before all 9 of them were to move into their dorm where they will stay in their early days of debut and shouted ‘I CAN DO IT!’ 3 times to the river to help encourage herself to face the coming burden of being the leader to 8 other girls. I do that to encourage myself to study or to do something. I pump both my fists into the air and chant ‘Na neun, halsuitta!!’ 3 times before continuing my work. It works you know. Haha
This next one is a quirky one. Ice Princess Jessica taught me never to run no matter how late you are, because it doesn’t make a difference. This happened during their trip to Phuket when they were playing a treasure hunt. Jessica refused to move about unless she had a buggy to ride in to look for the clues. You have no idea how frustrated Sooyoung was being stuck in the same team as her. But it really does make sense. If you’re already late, might as well be late. No matter how much you run, you’re still going to be late. LOL
Brighter than Gems Fany Fany Tiffany showed me that pink isn’t really that bad. Of course, if you know me well enough, I really don’t like pink but now I kinda like it, since it is our official colour anyway. Haha and she also taught me that if you really want your dream, go chase it because she flew all the way from USA to South Korea just to be a singer, leaving everything including family and friends behind.
Ah..there’s just too many to list and this post is getting long enough already.
I’m not good with words but I hope you get what I’m trying to say. These girls went from one of the most hated people to now the most loved. No other artists out there has faced a black sea* before and these 9girls did. That’s one of the reasons why I’m so proud of them. They are so professional to the extent that when something bad like that happened, they still continue with the performance like nothing happened.
So, I shall end this long winded post here with a shout out to the 9 lovely Angels.
Happy 4th Anniversary to Girls’ Generation!!
Us SONEs were working hard to trend #SNSD4thAnni and Girls’ Generation when Twitter took it off the TT almost 30minutes before 12AM KST August 5th. In quick reflex, we started to trend SNSD4thAnni and it’s sitting there at the TT LIKE. A. BOSS.
*Black Sea: Kpop fanclubs are unique in the sense that every club has its own name and its own colour. During concerts, fans would use light sticks to show support to their idols. Dream Concert is a mixed concert of many artists and in 2008, some sort of a plan happened and everybody except SONEs turned off their light sticks during the Girls’ performance. It was pitch black then except for a patch of pink somewhere near the stage. The major contributors to the black sea were green, blue and red.
Of course now, the sea isn’t black, it’s Pink. And it’s not really a sea, it’s an ocean now.
