Morning had arrived. In the heart of a city, the sun’s rays were blocked by skyscrapers, allowing only a few shafts of light to penetrate the city. He stood at the balcony, enjoying the cool morning air. Cayden enjoyed this particular time of day the most, feeling the breeze gently caress his face, the tingly feeling one gets from it. Truly wonderful. The sunrise seems to have woken up many of his animal neighbours, cats mewing and birds chirping away as everyone prepare themselves to face a new day, with new hopes and a fresh outlook on the world.
A pair of arms slowly wrapped themselves around the his waist and a chin rested on his left shoulder. He smiled, knowing perfectly well who the owner was, turned around and the latter embraced.
‘I don’t like sleeping alone on the bed. It feels so empty and cold. So technically, it’s your fault I’m up so early,’ she replied as she brushes her lips against his.
‘Yah! Do I have a ‘tease me’ sign hanging around my neck? Why are you teasing me so much in the morning?’ she pouted as she made her way towards the bathroom.
‘Aw, is my girl mad? I’m sorry’
Cayden made breakfast for 2 as he waited for his girlfriend to finish washing up. A grin found its way to his face as he thought of his plans for the day. Today was a special day for the two of them. It was on this very day years ago that they first met. It was their anniversary today and he had planned a special date to commemorate this occasion. Everything has been set to be perfect.
‘I hope all goes as planned today.’ He said to himself while cooking.
After breakfast the both of them went out for a what-seems-to-be just another date between them. First, they went to the mall for a shopping spree. Of course, what girl would turn down an opportunity like that? Jessica was more than happy to oblige to her boyfriend’s date plan.
As they exited each store, a new bag would be added to Cayden’s arms while Jessica wonders off into another. The cycle is repeated until her stomach began to grumble.
‘Honey, I’m hungry. Let’s go eat!’
‘Sure, no problem. Just let me unload these shopping bags into the car first, ok?’
‘Ok, but make it snappy, I’m hungry.’
‘I won’t take more than 10 minutes. I promise.’
True enough Cayden stuck to his words. Within 10 minutes they were off to Jessica’s favourite cafe within the mall for lunch. How sweet the both of them looked walking together, with their arms intertwined with each other, Jessica’s head on his shoulder, a lovely sight.

The sky turned vermillion and the colour slowly faded, turning the sky dark and the city began to be lit up by lights. I took her down to the waterfront, she always love the sound of waves lapping by the shore and the salty sea breeze. I personally don’t favour the sea but since I want her to enjoy my plan as much as I do, I’ve decided not to be selfish for once.
‘Sica, if you had to rate this date on the scale of one to ten, how would it fare?’
‘hmm, I don’t know, why?’
‘Nothing, just curious.’
‘What’s up with you today?’
Crap, have I been found out?!
‘You’re acting really weird since we went shopping this morning’
Oh crap, was I too obvious?
‘But I like it, it’s sweet’
Crap. I think she knows. Well, at least she liked it.
‘Did you plan everything beforehand?’
What should I say?
*ahem*
Ok, here I go.
‘Sica, do you remember what today is?’
‘hmm?’
‘You forgot?’
‘No! Of course not. How can I forget our anniversary? Tell me the truth, you planned everything for today, didn’t you?’
Time to come clean.
*sigh*
‘Yeah, I wanted today to be special. Did it work?’
‘hmm, you can say so’ she said as she wrapped her arms around my neck.
I guess it’s now or never!
‘You know, there is one more thing left on my agenda today’
‘Really? We’ve been out the entire day, you have more planned?’
‘Yup! And this agenda is special!’ I said as I reached for something in my pocket.
‘It’s beautiful!’
‘True, but it doesn’t match your beauty’
‘Cheesy’
‘But you like it, don’t you?’
She didn’t reply, instead, she kissed me on the cheek.
‘Sica-ah, will you marry me?’ I whispered into her ear in the middle of the kiss.
‘I would have to think about it’ she replied cheekily as she pulled away and started skipping towards the playground in front of us.
‘Yah, Jessica! Answer my question!’
She stopped. I felt my body tensed up as she turned around with a blank face. What will she say?
Then, she grinned.
‘Of course I will say yes, you idiot! I’ve been waiting for you to ask since, like, forever ago!’
